The mythic creation of X is addressed in the song snippet:

"Prepare the patients scalp
To peel away
Metal caps his ears
He'll hear not what we say
Solid steel visor
Riveted across his eyes
Iron staples close his jaws
So no one hears his cries"

Y's mother used to say to him _____ when he was headbanging. "Don't do that or you'll _______  something up in there!" This then led to the expression "to _______ one's head" meaning head-bang. Identify X and Y.

X lost part of his "nose" in a sword duel against fellow Danish nobleman Manderup Parsberg. X had earlier quarrelled with Parsbjerg over the legitimacy of a mathematical formula, at a wedding dance at professor Lucas Bachmeister's house. Since neither had the resources to prove the other wrong, they ended up resolving the issue with a duel. Though the two later reconciled, the duel two days later, resulted in X losing the bridge of his nose. From this event X  became interested in medicine and alchemy. For the rest of his life, he was said to have worn a replacement made of silver and gold, using a paste or glue to keep it attached. Nonetheless, after chemically analyzing "a small bone sample from the nose" from the body exhumed in 2010, reported the prosthetic was "made out of brass". Identify X.

X written by Y was actually written about "Thanksgiving", and titled "One Horse Open Sleigh". Music historian James Fuld notes that “the word ____ in the title and opening phrase is apparently an imperative verb.” X was inspired by the town’s popular sleigh races during the 1800s. A plaque at 19 High Street in the center of Medford Square in Medford, Massachusetts commemorates the "birthplace" of X. Identify X and Y.

  • X was used by some early NASA manned space flights. In 1962, when Mercury astronaut John Glenn conducted eating experiments in orbit, X was selected for the menu, and was also used during some Gemini flights. In 2013, Buzz Aldrin stated that "X sucks".
  • X can be mixed with "Jim Beam" bourbon to make a cocktail called "Moon Beam".
  • A household tip says X is an excellent dishwasher cleaning agent due to its high citric acid content.
  • At one time, Philadelphia authorities attempted to deter addicts from misusing doses of methadone by packaging it in combination with X; this was carried out under the reasoning that nobody would be foolish enough to intravenously inject the combination, but apparently someone was.
  • X was a component of the liquid explosive allegedly intended for use in the 2006 transatlantic aircraft plot (along with hydrogen peroxide and Hexamine), to produce HMTD, an explosive compound.

The flag of X includes the image of an "AK-47" with a bayonet attached to the barrel and is the only national flag in the world to feature such a modern rifle. The flag is based on the flag of the "FRELIMO", the leading political party in X.  Green stands for the riches of the land, the white fimbriations signify peace, black represents the African continent, yellow symbolizes the country's minerals, and red represents the struggle for independence. The AK-47 rifle stands for defense and vigilance, the open book symbolizes the importance of education, the hoe represents the country's agriculture, and the star symbolizes Marxism and internationalism. Which country am I talking about? Shown below is a small part of the flag.

Before molding, the components of the alloy are kept in separate batches, typically in blocks of resin. It is prepared by melting the blocks together, mixing the components while the resin evaporates. The alloy must then be cast within eight minutes. It's extremely stable molecular structure prevents it from being further molded even if the temperature is high enough to keep it in its liquified form. In its solid form, it is colorless, shiny, and resembles high-grade steel or titanium.

X is a portmanteau of "Legend" and Latin ablative for "new".For the first 20 years of its existence the company's English name was "Legend". In 2002, it was decided to abandon use of the Legend brand name in order to expand outside of China, as the "Legend" name was already in use by many other businesses worldwide, making it impossible to register in most jurisdictions. In April 2003, the company publicly announced its new name, X with a large media campaign involving huge outdoor billboards and prime time television ads. The billboards featured the X logo against blue sky with copy that read, "Transcendence depends on how you think".

X is a Bantu term roughly translating to "human kindness". In South Africa, it has come to be used as a term for a kind of humanist philosophy, ethic or ideology propagated in the Africanization process in 1980s. Since the transition to democracy, the term has become more widely known outside of Southern Africa, notably popularized to English language readers by "Desmond Tutu". What is X?

Named after an American cartoonist and inventor, X machine is a deliberately over-engineered machine that performs a very simple task in a very complex fashion, usually including a chain reaction. Over the years, the expression "X machine" has expanded to mean any confusing or complicated system. X's cartoons became well known for depicting complex devices that performed simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways. The pic below shows "Professor Butts and the Self-Operating Napkin" by X.
